2018 Domaine des Rouges-Queues Maranges en Buliet

Isabelle & Jean-Yves Vantey established their domaine in 1998 with just one hectare in Maranges, the youngest appellation in Burgundy named just ten years earlier. Now they farm six hectares biodynamically across 15 different sites in various appellations. The name "Rouges Queues" came from the birds ("red tail", also known as "black redstart") circling around the estate while they restored the old farm buildings. From vines planted in 1933-34, then a second plant in 1958, on yellow-brown colluvium soils, rich in iron and calcareous pebbles. 100% whole bunch maceration over 14 days, 10 months élevage in old barrels. Quite powerful and structured with chalky tannins and juicy ripe fruits - think blood plum and black cherry.
Varietal: Pinot Noir.
Region: Burgundy, FR.
Viticulture: Certified Biodynamic.
