2018 Terre de l’Elu Espérance

Located in the small village of Saint-Aubin-de-Luigné, the Terre de l’Elu estate totals 22 hectares over 30 different plots and dates back to the 1950s. The vineyards were purchased by Charlotte & Thomas Carsin in 2008, both with extensive backgrounds in viticulture and oenology with experience in Champagne, Provence and the Sonoma Valley. The couple farm organically and biodynamically, using native cover crops, soil tilling and encouraging biodiversity. They have also rejected the Anjou appellation after years of unnecessary bureaucracy, fees and red tape, choosing to bottle 'Vin de France'. 100% Pineau d’Aunis, a native Loire varietal and favourite of ours. From vines up to 60 years of age, naturally fermented with indigenous yeasts, whole bunch maceration over 15 days. 12 months élevage, half in barrel, half in amphora. Floral and spicy, it's all sour cherry, wild strawberry, violet and white pepper. Quite mineral with driving acidity. A great expression of Pineau d’Aunis.
