2019 Giaconda Estate Vineyard Shiraz

Truly one of Australia's top estates, Giaconda has garnered a serious cult following. A pioneer of Beechworth, Rick Kinzbrunner established his four hectare vineyard in 1982, now considered one of the most important and revered estates in the country. Tiny quantities.
"At an altitude of 400+ metres, the site and climate are influenced by the surrounding alpine valleys. Our Estate Vineyard Shiraz is planted on the amphitheatre block at the top of the property with a warm north-facing exposure. The soil is 450 million year old granitic loam over decomposed gravel and clay". Dark red to coal black in colour. Notes of damp forest floor combine with a zephyr of savoury meats and campfire smoke, with raspberry and star anise notes lifted by the whole-bunch component. Round and rich with a satisfying fruit-laden palate of wild berries coming to the fore. The tannins are powder-fine and convey red fruits with a twist of spiced vanilla oak, long on the palate. Evocative and immensely complex, this finishes with a strong mineral and graphite impact. A wine that is destined to have a long future." - Rick Kinzbrunner
