2019 La Cadette Vézelay La Piècette

"This is the first time we have imported the Vézelay Cuvée Piècette from La Cadette. It is also of interest because it is issued under the newly proclaimed Vézelay appellation which covers white wines made from 100% Chardonnay in this northern part of Burgundy which lies just below the famous Chablis appellation and shares similar terroir.

The vineyards for this wine are in four of the designated communes allowed for this appellation, namely Asquins, St Père, Tharoiseau and Vézelay. It is also an interesting wine because the vines grow in excellent limestone soils and the grapes are hand harvested prior to being direct-pressed and then undergoing natural fermentation. However, unlike their other whites which are also matured in tank, this cuvée is matured in previously used wooden barrels which have the effect of making the wine richer and more complex. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration and only minimal sulphites are added at bottling." - Living Wines
