2019 Partida Creus BB Ancestral

WINEMAKER: Antonella Gerosa & Massimo Marchiori
REGION: Catalunya, SP
VARIETAL: Bobal
VITICULTURE: Organic
Vintage 2020 had its challenges in Penedes, yields were down by 25% and mildew created issues in some parcels. As such there were no Ancestral’s produced by Partida Creus in 2020. Resultantly, the 2019’s were held a little longer in the cellar, 12 months before disgorgement, and arrived here in Australia at the end of February this year. This vintage sees a gentle bulle on both VN White and Red, these are vinous Ancestral’s that have the lifted element a bubble brings without being “gassy” The lower bulle is most noticeable when opening, but there is still good mousse when pouring the wine.
A note from Antonella and Massimo: This year we have found something strange disgorging sparkling wines from '19: the VNBA, despite having been bottled as usual at 1001 density, has little gas. Perhaps in the days when we were measuring sugars, some meteorological, atmospheric or astral situation distorted the reading of the densimeter or perhaps I have made a mistake."
"Warm spices into blackcurrants and blackberries. Christmas cake, pops of red berries, cranberry. The palate is incredibly vibrant. Textured, rounded with a curve of freshness. An interplay of sappy fruit with lithe tannins. Sparkling Shiraz esq, moreish." - Liz
Hailing from Piemonte, qualified architects Antonella Gerosa & Massimo Marchiori purchased an isolated property in Bonastre in 2001, yearning for a simpler lifestyle, to grow their own produce and reconnect with the land. Surrounded by a protected forest, planted with almond and olive trees, interspersed with rosemary, thyme and Mediterranean scrub, the couple soon discovered an abandoned vine of Sumoll, a forgotten indigenous Catalan varietal.
