2021 Commune of Buttons Basket Town White

VARIETAL: Chardonnay
REGION: Adelaide Hills, SA
VITICULTURE: Organic/ Biodynamic
WINEMAKER: Jasper Button
The Basket Town white is from the villages of Mylor (Kas Sluiter vineyard), Carey Gully (Merrowbank vineyard, Commune of Buttons) and Basket Range (Estate Vineyard). The intention of the Basket Town wines is to blend select barrels of each parcel to find a balanced textural white that speaks of the region.
The grapes were harvested in late March with the parcels each ripening on average 2 weeks later than normal. This was due to a cooler ripening period and rain during harvest. Fruit for the basket town was direct pressed and after settling overnight each parcel fermented in barriques and hogsheads where elevage took place for 6 months on full lees. The parcels were then blended into a stainless-steel tank and aged for a further 3 months before bottling.
The wine is saline and tightly bound, with air there is more straw and lees with a peachy lime nose – easy drinking.
