2021 Moorak Oakbank Pinot Meunier

WINEMAKER: Jordan Hein
REGION: Adelaide Hills, SA
VARIETAL: Pinot Meunier
VITICULTURE: Sustainable
Added a few new wines this year, and another addition for the last release of 2021, we’ve been eager to share around — Meunier has become a favourite, not only to work with, but to drink. Single site, the fruit was destemmed and cold fermented. For balance, it was stored in a mix of stainless tank and seasoned oak. As a variety it brings vibrancy, yet remains delicate and pretty. With a creamy texture and floral aromatics, it’s perfect chilled, for Summer.
From scratch, a literal few tonnes of grapes in 2018, Jordan Hein created Moorak Wines — named as an ode to his birthplace, the small town of Moorak, in South Australia. A first-generation winemaker, from self-study, experimentation and learning from experience, Jordan further developed the label to encompass his own stylistic approach of winemaking techniques. Experimenting and researching more varieties and regions in an ever developing portfolio of unique and considered wines. Currently situated in McLaren Vale, the winery is a minimal carbon-impact facilitiy, completely off grid, using Solar power, rain water and bore water, throughout production. These are an important elements of Jordan and Moorak’s ideology towards minimal intervention winemaking, and as low impact as possible to the land itself. Jordans ethos — to focus on manipulating the environment of the wine, rather than the wine itself.
