A blend of directly pressed Dornfelder, young vine Riesling and Siegerrebe. Red fruits, soft herbs, white floral. Watermelon and orange blossom give way to pink grapefruit and red summer fruits. Salivating crunch. Fine fruit tannin, great length. Hibiscus. Creamy soda vibe. Serve very cold.
Alanna Lagamba is a 27-year-old Canadian who now resides in Flonheim, Germany. She moved to Berlin after university and began work at Jaja, one of the leading natural wine bars of the city. After a few months she met young German winemaker Martin Worner, of Marto Wines. There was an opportunity to do vineyard work in the Rheinhessen with Martin, and as all good love stories go, she hasn’t left.
Frauenpower came about with Alanna wanting her own project. There was some Dornfelder in the vineyards that wasn’t being used, and Alanna took the challenge. Being of Italian descent the logical explanation for the grapes was to make a German style Lambrusco! And thus, Frauen Power was born!
A self-proclaimed feminist, the idea behind the name of the wine came easy. For those unfamiliar with Dornfelder, it is the most successful of the modern red German crosses. An early to mid-ripening variety, it has thick skins and is prized for its deep colour. It produces ‘dark, rich, velvety wines with good acidity and occasionally an attractive floral note’.
