2022 Bink Sergeant J Grenache

WINEMAKER: Koen Janssens
REGION: Barossa Valley, SA
VARIETAL: Grenache
VITICULTURE: Organic
"85% Barossa valley fruit, 15% Langhorne creek fruit. Barossa valley fruit is from the Stockwell rd vineyard, 60Y block. 10 day skin fermented (80% destemmen -20% whole bunch) and pressed to French seasoned oak. Langhorne Creek is a certified organic block. Sand on clay on limestone gives it a perfect base for a spice driven Grenache. 100% de stemmen and fermented until 3B left, pressed to seasoned French hogsheads. Brought all components together on June 6th. Ying/yang in a glass. It amazed me how well all the different components work together, the spice and freshness from the Langhorne Creek block combined with the structural complexity and fruit forward nature of the Barossa valley block. Best Grenache yet!!! Like watching a cruise ship float passed for the first time and being impressed with the size of the thing!!" - Koen
Koen Janssens started his wine life working as a Sommelier in Belgium and around Europe. He landed in Sydney in 2012 but it wasn't long before he was called to life in the vineyard in South Australia. Koen worked with legends we all know and love such as Anton from Lucy M, James from Jauma. He started Yetti and the Kokonut with Dave Geyer, but it was old mate Pete Schell from Spinifex who suggested Koen get out on his own, and Bink was born in 2017.
