Balcombe Coastal Gin

REGION: Mornington Peninsula, VIC
SIZE: 500ml / ABV: 41%
The Coastal Gin contains 20 different botanicals including foraged ingredients such as local samphire, saltbush, kelp, wild fennel, and wild fennel pollen to impart the all-important coastal experience. The guys then used Java long pepper, blood orange, lemon verbena, then two types of coriander and ginger for complexity. Of course, there is plenty of soft juniper character to balance all those powerful coastal flavours, providing the drinker with a Gin that is both delicately poised and evocative of the Peninsula. Distilled under the experienced eye of Sebastian Reaburn, this winemaker’s gin is left deliberately cloudy as the distillers do not fine or filter the spirit, leading to extra texture and interest in the bottle.
Balcombe’s first terrific small batch Gin— inspired by the flavours of the Mornington Peninsula—is distilled by Garagiste Vintners in collaboration with Melbourne’s The Craft & Co. distillery. Long recognised as two of Victoria’s finest boutique winemakers, Barney Flanders and Cam Marshall’s foray into craft spirits was inspired by the idea of combining some of the coastal ingredients indigenous to the Peninsula with some of the spicy aromatic notes found in their Garagiste Pinot Noirs.
