2022 Damien Bureau Paloma
WINEMAKER: Damien Bureau
REGION: Loire Valley, FR
VARIETY: Groulleau, Gamay, Pineau d’Aunis
VITICULTURE: Organic
A blend of 40% Grolleau, 40% Gamay, and 20% Pineau d’Aunis from Damien’s own vines in Anjou. The fruit was harvested separately and left to ferment in whole bunches. All the juice was then blended for a short elevage before bottling. The resulting wine is perfectly poised at just 11.5% - light and bright, showing just a touch of spice from the Pineau d’Aunis.
Damien is one of the most precise and rigourous winemakers we have met. He is truly on the quest for natural perfection expressed through Chenin Blanc, Grolleau, Gamay and Pineau d’Aunis. The Domaine is in the village of Champ-sur-Layon, not far from the elegant town of Angers. This area offers a great advantage, being at the crossroads of 2 distinct geological zones, thus offering access to deep rich degrading schistes which give fire, as well as some classic pure clay limestone terroirs. Damien is a fervent zero intervention winemaker, but does not rest until each wine has gone through its course to ensure the bottled wine is as near perfection as possible. Patience is a must, with long fermentations and long barrel ageing, but when the wines are ready, we realise the wait was worth the while! With only 3 ha for the world, we are lucky to be able to offer you a taste of this tireless work.
