2022 France Gonzalvez Feer’Hic
WINEMAKER: France Gonzalvez
REGION: Savoie, FR
VARIETY: Roussanne
VITICULTURE: Certified Organic/Biodynamic
The Chignin Bergeron (Roussanne) is a medium bodied, acid-forward expression from certified organic & dry farmed vineyards in the Savoie. Native yeasts, direct pressed, wild fermentation & maturation in concrete tank on gross lees with 10ppm SO2 added at bottling. Unfined & unfiltered.
A deep golden hue with amber reflections. The nose combines notes of refined citrus & stone fruit, herbaceous & subtle oxidative qualities inc. walnut, white molasses, musk, lemon confit, dried apricots, orris root & cardamon. The palate is taut with a fine balance of energy & minerality with a suave ripeness. Candied ginger, preserved lemon, honey on toast. A nod to the Jura, perhaps? Buttercups, yellow peaches & Anzac cookie. A beautiful Roussanne with depth but still fresh & airy. Great detail & a mineral streak that gives balance, with precise acidity & texture.
Bordering Switzerland in eastern France, in the heart of the French Alps lies Savoie, a region as diverse as the breathtaking landscapes that surround it. Here, among soaring peaks & tranquil lakes, vineyards cling to steep slopes, their roots digging deep in a patchwork of soils that etch a lasting impression on their wines.
Now, it's time to get glacial with alpine gem, France Gonzalvez. Pure and vibrant, they invigorate with the freshness of alpine air and intense minerality. Spending her formative years in Beaujolais under the tutelage of the giants - think Xavier Bénier, Lapalu, Lapierre & Métras (wow) - France's pedigree is near untouchable. Eventually returning home in 2020, she now works with small parcels of native varieties, farming organically in truly "hard yakka" conditions in the pursuit of an honest and pure expression of Savoie's idyllic terroir.
