2023 Patrice Colin Vendomois Blanc "Pente des Coutis" Sec
WINEMAKER: Patrice Colin
REGION: Loire; FR
VARIETY: Chenin Blanc
VITICULTURE: Biodynamic/Organic
This rich, structured, and elegant Chenin Blanc wine comes from a limestone terroir, facing due south towards the Château de Vendôme. The palate is balanced and silky, the nose fruity; vineyard peach. The golden color is reminiscent of the fruit's ripeness. It will delight you as an aperitif, with cooked fish, desserts and cheeses. Today the estate comprises 28 hectares of vines, including 12 hectares of Pineau D'Aunis, 10 hectares of Chenin, 2.5 hectares of Pinot Noir, 1 hectare of Cabernet Franc, 1 hectare of Gamay and 1.5 hectares of Chardonnay. The vines are always planted at a very high density; 7500 vines per hectare to promote competition and concentration. The originality comes from the flints of the Loir Valley and the clay-limestone subsoil, moreover the vineyard, being located in the meanders of the Loir, benefits from a very favorable microclimate with little rain and ideal sunshine thanks to a beautiful exposure. Working the soil has always been a priority on the estate, nourishing and aerating it to encourage a thriving microbial life. This allows the vines to draw their minerals from deep within the soil, thus fully expressing their terroir. Organic and biodynamic farming practices are a natural way to promote balance and plant diversity in the soil. The winemaking process is non-interventionist; the grapes are generally destemmed and sorted, and ferment in stainless steel tanks or barrels using their indigenous yeasts. Chaptalization is prohibited in all years. The wines perfectly represent the spirit of the vintage and the terroir where they were born.
