2019/20 La Sorga L'intravineuse
WINEMAKER: Anthony Tortul
REGION: Languedoc, FR
VARIETAL: Grenache Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Colombard
VITICULTURE: Organic/Biodynamic
Anthony Tortul is probably the most renowned orange wine producer in France. This wine represents its expression of long maceration taken to a whole new level. The grenache makes 1 year of maceration in contact with the skins, which is then blended with the fresh winter juice. Aging for 9 months in vats on the lees. 70% of Grenache blanc 60 years old vineyard, the rest is Sauvignon and Colombard. Bergamot, pickled lemon, boxwood and white flowers, in the mouth we have the frame of Grenache, mineral, complex, aniseed finish well carried by the tannic structure of the long maceration. Limited production of only 2000 bottles. No sulfite added, no filter, nothing added.
Antony Tortul started La Sorga in 2008 as a pure négociant in Languedoc-Roussillon, sourcing organic or biodynamic grapes from old vineyards from Gaillac to Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the Languedoc being his favourite vinous playground. Antony is extremely rigorous in his selection of vineyards and is always looking for exceptional terroirs. He works with over 40 vineyards of different soils, grape varieties and vine ages (between 25 to 110 years old) ... little wonder that he produces so many labels (and I only import a few of them!) Antony vinifies in his cellar in Béziers, with only wild fermentation, no fining or filtration nor added SO2.
