2022 France Gonzalvez Miss Mond
WINEMAKER: France Gonzalvez
REGION: Savoie, FR
VARIETY: Mondeuse
VITICULTURE: Certified Organic/Biodynamic
Certified organic & dry farmed Mondeuse was fermented wild, semi-carbonic in concrete tank. The resulting wine was pressed to old oak for 6 months on fine lees prior to bottling. The wine was bottled with 10ppm S02 at closure, unfined & unfiltered.
Garnet in hue with mauve & violet reflections, the nose is spicy & floral with notes of wet earth, violets, cassis, black cherry, sichuan & bay leaf. The palate is brooding, open & balanced between it's roundness & linear acidity, ripeness & sinewy structure.
Miss Mond is France Gonzalvez's mystifying Mondeuse at 9.5% alc! Rustic flavours, Syrah-like profile on the nose, but the body is lithe, super light & fresh. Atypical in style, but varietal & delicious all the same.
Bordering Switzerland in eastern France, in the heart of the French Alps lies Savoie, a region as diverse as the breathtaking landscapes that surround it. Here, among soaring peaks & tranquil lakes, vineyards cling to steep slopes, their roots digging deep in a patchwork of soils that etch a lasting impression on their wines.
Now, it's time to get glacial with alpine gem, France Gonzalvez. Pure and vibrant, they invigorate with the freshness of alpine air and intense minerality. Spending her formative years in Beaujolais under the tutelage of the giants - think Xavier Bénier, Lapalu, Lapierre & Métras (wow) - France's pedigree is near untouchable. Eventually returning home in 2020, she now works with small parcels of native varieties, farming organically in truly "hard yakka" conditions in the pursuit of an honest and pure expression of Savoie's idyllic terroir.
