2023 Domaine Charnay Beaujolais-Villages

WINEMAKER: Thilbault Charnay
REGION: Beaujolais, FR
VARIETY: Gamay
VITICULTURE: Certified Organic
Bright, light, and crunchy, this wine bursts with rose, cherry, and tea flavours, standing out for its confident, vibrant herbal complexity. It undergoes cold carbonic maceration with indigenous yeasts in concrete. Thibault Charnay produces only this one cuvée, and it’s more than enough for us! Light in color and body, it exudes earthy notes and subtle red fruit, with a delicate evergreen tingle on the palate. Organically grown, low-intervention, and vegan-friendly.
Thibault Charnay grew up surrounded by vineyards with his family history of growers based in Terres Dorees in the southern part of the Beaujolais. He returned home in 2012 after working in a different field for a long time. His wines have been certified organic since 2019, and he owns 12 hectares of vines. His brother-in-law Raphael, from Domaine de St Cyr, heavily encouraged him to do his own bottling. As a real mentor, Raphael assisted Thibault for his first vintages offering the use of his own winery to make this happen. With some stunning fruit from his own vineyard, Thibault released his first Beaujolais in 2019 and it was a massive success; light, fresh and crunchy. Each vintage to this 2023 has been made in exactly the same way, using cold carbonic fermentation for one week and then stored for six months in concrete tanks. A delightful and lighter style of Gamay.
