2021 Massa Vecchia Rosato

80% malvasia nera and 20% merlot, barely twelve hours maceration. Complex and easy drinking at the same time, this deep rose' goes from red fruits to ginger and pink pepper. Clean and precise. Age it if you can, you won't regret it.
Massa Vecchia is based on the "Colline Metallifere", in the commune of Massa Marittima, in the south of Tuscany. Fabrizio started Massa Vecchia in 1985 and, in the spirit of constant evolution, it is today a great example of multipurpose farm: 24,5 ha of which 5 ha are vineyard, 1,5 ha olive growth, 7 ha agricultural land & pasture and 11 ha of forest. In 2008, Fabrizio and his wife Patrizia, moved further up in altitude, to fund Aia Vecchia and Patrizia's daughter took charge of Massa Vecchia from 2009 to 2018. From 2019 Fabrizio came back to Massa Vecchia with the involvement of his other daughter Tosca and his son Vasco.
Vineyards go from 180 m to 500m a.s.l, with a variety of soil that goes from calcareous marl to palombino and marble limestone. The grapes are Sangiovese, Alicante, Malvasia Nera, Merlot for the reds and Vermentino for whites. The approach in the vineyards is going well beyond organic or biodynamic farming.
In the cellar fermentation are spontaneous, in open wooden vats, resulting in incredibly complex reds and vibrant and age-worthy orange wines. These wines are the result of an incredible terroir and amazing people passion and skill.
