The João “Pato” (DUCK) family has been producing wine at Quinta do Ribeirinho since the eighteen century. João Pato, the 1970’s pioneer, was first to start bottling after the demarcation. Son Luis Pato inherited this nonconformist and pioneer spirit made his first pure Baga wine in 1980. Now since 2018, the winery has been known as DUCKMAN a.k.a João Pato with Luis’s daughter, Maria Pato, now at the helm. Guided by her love of the region and its indigenous varietals, she operates without the constraints of the standard Bairrada winemaking practices. She uses natural yeasts, organic grapes, unfiltered and unfined ‘hands off’ winemaking.
