2022 Stéphanie et Vincent Michelet Petit Chablis
WINEMAKER: Stéphanie Michelet
REGION: Burgundy, FR
VARIETY: Chardonnay
VITICULTURE: Organic
The Petit Chablis is from a vineyard situated on a Portlandian limestone plateau near the village of Beine. Vinification is in stainless steel and the wine is kept on fine lees for 6-8 months after malolactic conversion. “Pale straw with green and platinum inflections. The classic nose for this cuvée and exactly why we work with this wine and producer. Nice concentration of lemon, lime and grapefruit with a hint of sea spray, delicate white and yellow florals, cold limestone and some lees spice. Delicate, fine and fresh but with excellent concentration and length of flavours. Juicy, lightly pithy upfront pristine grapefruit and lemon fruit which slowly transitions to a nice cool stoniness on the finish. Shows you what well situated Petit Chablis vineyard is capable of!” – Tim Stock, June 2024
Since taking over the vines of Stephanie’s father, Claude Courtault, Stéphanie and Vincent now farm 22 hectares of vineyard across all the Chablis ACs. We still only import the wines made from Stephanie and Vincent’s original 6 hectares as it is these wines that we consider superior in the range due to their ultra-mineral style - courtesy of well-sited vineyards and minimalist winemaking style. Very little oak is used, and only large format for some 1er Crus. The tank components are not stirred, so there’s no flabbiness/creaminess like in many unoaked styles. These are refreshing wines you can drink for days and represent excellent value!
