2019 Koppitsch Perspektive Rot

WINEMAKER: Alex & Maria Koppitsch
REGION: Burgenland, AU
VARIETY: Blaufränkisch, Sankt Laurent
VITICULTURE: Organic/Biodynamic
The grapes got partially destemmed (approx. 10% stems in the mash) and fermented naturally in stainless steel and fiberglass vats. After about 10 days we pressed the mash and the wine was pumped into barrels (225l Barriques) in the cellar. Everything matured on gross lees for 22 months without any additives, without fining, without filtration and without temperature control.
In 2011, Alex and Maria Koppitsch took control of the families 6 hectares of vines in Burgenland, a short 40-minute drive from the Austrian capital, Vienna. The vineyards are all located around the village of Neusiedl am See and its lake. The estate was converted to Biodynamic farming prior (2007) whilst Alex was working alongside Gerhard Pittnauer in the neighbouring village of Gols. The soils range from sand through to loam, limestone and schist, and on the Wagram-ridge (in the northeast) alluvial—with large gravel and river stones, from the ancient Danube River. Until 1921 Burgenland was a German speaking part of the Hungarian monarchy. As homage to this history of Hungarian culture, several of the wines have Hungarian names including Homok which means sand.
