2021 Bodega Chacra Cincuenta Y Cinco Pinot Noir

WINEMAKER: Piero Incisa della Rocchetta & Jean-Marc Roulot
REGION: Patagonia, ARG
VARIETAL: Pinot Noir
VITICULTURE: Certified Organic/Biodynamic
From vines planted in 1955 on a sea of pebbles. Cincuenta y Cinco has the highest amount of tension of all the Chacra wines while it still retains a comfortable ease. There is a wonderful purity in this wine with dried strawberry and iodine. Cherry fruit with undertones of smoke, game and mineral. Fermented whole cluster at very low temperatures, enhancing the floras. 40% in concrete egg and 60% in 2nd, 3rd and 4th use oak for 10 months.
“Perfumed and floral aromas of rose petals, rose hips, wild strawberries, raspberries, sliced mushrooms and orange zest. Bright and succulent with a medium body and very fine, firm tannins. Delightful citrus and crunchy red-fruit character with pretty rose-petal notes throughout.” - James Suckling
Piero Incisa della Rocchetta is the grandson of the aristocratic winemaking family behind Tuscany's groundbreaking Sassicaia. In 2004 Piero heard whispers of an abandoned Pinot Noir vineyard in Patagonia, originally planted in 1932. And so, began what is now Bodega Chacra. Organic & biodynamic certified, located in the Rio Negro Valley of northern Patagonia. Since 2017, Piero has been working with famed burgundy wine-maker JM Roulot to produce Chardonnay in Patagonia to great acclaim. Fruit is hand harvested, fermented in concrete, transferred by gravity, created without fining or filtration in order to produce wines with transparency.
