Case Vecchie farm is located on the Morainic hills in Monzambano, in the province of Mantova. Those hills whose heights ranging from 100 to 250 meters asl are located between the Po River in the South and Lake Garda in the North. The territory is characterised by wooded areas, rolling hills alternate with plateaus, lakes and springs, vineyards and olive groves. It is a large moraine, which is made up of small circles hills with some flat areas, originating from the rock debris carried by the big Garda glacier two million years ago.
Led by the young winemaker Paolo Ferri, he has been making wine since 2010, but also honey, olive oil, ancient grains and medicinal plants. The 2 hectares of vineyards were planted by Paolo’s father about 30 years ago, divided among Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot. At the time international varieties were planted to satisfy the local demand from the near by cooperative. When Paolo took over the farm, an additional parcel of Rondinella was planted. His father, now retired, still contribute helping Paolo in the vineyard, and his sister instead is in charge of official herbs and beekeeper of almost 100 families of bees. Since the beginning, vines and other crops were cultivated following organic principal and in full respect of the bees present in the farm, with minimal doses of copper and sulfur, covered with clover and wild herbs to promote biodiversity. Soil composition vary from stones, gravely soil in the top areas of the hills to more sandy, white and red clay areas in the lower parts.
