2021 Guillemot-Michel Le Feu et la Glace

WINEMAKER: Pierette & Marc Guillemot
REGION: Burgundy, FR
VARIETY: Chardonnay, Gamay
VITICULTURE: Organic/Biodynamic
This is a one off. With the 2019 and 2021 being a really hard year, they had purchase a little bit of Gamay in Beaujolais, all certified organic. Red berries, yellow floral and soft citrus aromas. It’s crisp and refreshing. Punchy style, this will be great for varied gastronomy delights. A red berry fruits, citrus, chalky style palate delight.
Pierette and Marc Guillemot’s estate sits within the small hamlet of Quintaine, situated within the mighty appellation of Viré-Clessé, Mâconnais. Viré-Clessé sits aside from the other village appellations of the area mostly near Beaujolais, instead positioned north of Mâcon. Renowned to have some of the most precious vines and the most delicate limestone soils in the South of Burgundy, the couple inherited the estate in the mid-eighties from Pierette’s parents and have worked to convert their several hectares to biodynamics, achieving this in 1991. Looking to compare other producers in the area we can only suggest Maison Valette, run by Baptiste and Phillipe Valette and started around a similar time. The wines made by these Domaine’s are the highlights of the region.
