2022 Georges Deschamps Petit Chablis

WINEMAKER: Guillaume Vrignaud
REGION: Burgundy, FR
VARIETY: Chardonnay
VITICULTURE: Certified Organic
The Petit Chablis from Guillaume reflects all the beauty of the appellation, with all a steely, driving backbone garlanded with silk. The wine is wonderfully crisp with delicate notes of green melon, Meyer lemon, honeysuckle, a touch of juniper and green apple. Gently harvested and whole bunch pressed into stainless steel for a long, natural fermentation. On lees for about six months, then racked into stainless steel for aging. Toffee apple, lime, light quartz-milk minerally characters. Scent and flavour in sync. Light lactic feel, feels loose knit but plenty concentrated and great zingy finish is a neat counter balance.
Vrignaud and his team meticulously tend the 29 hectares of vines, including the Premier Cru sites of Fourchaume, Mont de Milieu and Les Côtes de Fontenay. Embracing organic farming since 2009, the Vrignaud family show deep respect for nature and biodiversity. The winemaking process combines tradition and innovation: spontaneous fermentation, extended lees contact, and bottling without filtration, with minimal sulfites. This preserves the Chardonnay's purity and showcases the distinctive Chablis terroirs—Portlandian and Kimmeridgian soils.
Deschamps' Chablis offer a textured and lively expression of Chablis terroirs. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, they have a richer aromatic profile and generous palate with tension and phenolics. Each bottle is a deep dive into soil composition and vineyard character.
With its signature minerality and steely elegance, Georges Deschamps Chablis stands as a testament to Guillaume Vrignaud's commitment. Whether enjoyed alone or paired with oysters, these wines reflect their true value.
