2023 Ravensworth Gruner Veltliner
WINEMAKER: Bryan Martin
REGION: Tumbarumba, NSW
VARIETY: Gruner Veltliner
VITICULTURE: Organic
The second release of this alpine variety. The first was a single small barrel as a taster, waiting for this big batch to get itself together. The main difference is barrel size and time in barrel: 2,000l foudre for two years Gruner Veltliner is the main white variety from Austria, so we thought it important to ferments and mature this variety in a Austrian barrel. Stockinger are really the best large format foudre around. Made in Austria from loacal oak, these towering vessels fill our cellar and we are delighted to see Gruner become part of this stable. The 2 year maturation on lees has given the fruit a super fine structure built around the natural high acidity where the reductive environment gently coaxes the aromas and structure in the wine. Beautifully spicy, aromatic, hints of almond and blossom and that terrific long finely textured palate. Lovely now but will cellar well Collection: Single site Vintage: 2023 GI: Tumbarumba Vineyard source: Coppabella Harvest date: 3rd April Processing: Processed to skins for a few day, pressed to barrel Élevage: 24 Months Vessels: 2,000l Stockinger foudre Vintage conditions: A late bud burst with ample (to say the least) spring rain that dried up at flowering in mid to late December.
