2024 Patrick Sullivan Chardonnay

WINEMAKER: Patrick Sullivan
REGION: Limestone Coast, SA
VARIETY: Chardonnay
VITICULTURE: Organic/Biodynamic
Patrick Sullivan has built a name synonymous with fine Australian chardonnay. He welcomes the first wine of 2023 with the inaugural release of his namesake, the Patrick Sullivan Chardonnay. This release continues to pay homage to the volcanic soils of Southern Australia through its fine balance of richness, defined fruit and minerality. The vineyards are located on Australia’s unique limestone coast. All share a common shallow volcanic top layer with complimenting subsoils of limestone and basalt. This part of Australia is the 3rd largest volcanic plain on earth, still harbouring some 400 dormant volcanos. Patrick spent many years of his childhood in this region and is incredibly excited to share this fine example of Australian chardonnay with you.
Cream, white peach, citrus vanillin brioche... Brioche, mineral, peaches, lime and cream.
Farmer-winemaker Patrick Sullivan can do it all. From tending to vines in rural Victoria at just age 12 on a school excursion to picking up a degree in viticulture, Patrick has now settled in West Gippsland. Farming biodynamically alongside the iconic Bill Downie, his "Tumblestone Farm" property consists of 69 hectares of ultra close-spacing vineyards (7000 vines/ha - woof) nestled amongst an acacia forest. Sitting on basalt volcanic soils over sandstone at the base of the Strzelecki Ranges, Patrick's wines are electric, inspired and truly world class.
