Champagne Odile Thieullet - Cuvée Confidentielle -
WINEMAKER: Odile Thieullet
REGION: Champagne, FR
VARIETY: Pinot Meunier
VITICULTURE: Organic
From the 2022 harvest and a producer led by third generation female winemaker Odile Thieullet. The wines made exclusively of pinot meunier from this grower-producer. Around 80% sees time in oak barrels. Pretty much zero (0.5) dosage. Natural winemaking approach, mixed agriculture in the fields and vines. On the back label some great character and info, including a suggestion of ‘I like large glasses’ for service. Opening reveals that the foil is a kind of thick paper! Creamy, richer texture than expected but with a cool cut of briny minerality flowing through. Hazelnut cream, vanilla, faint toffee with angles provided by green apple, tart lime, white strawberry and white cherry. It finishes very fresh and quite cool and vinous. Indeed, the wine quite notably vinous. Soft, approachable bubbles lend charm. Layered, nuanced yet easy drinking. True charm. - WineFront.com.au Amid the rolling hills of the Marne Valley, where green clay and the Meunier have shaped the region for generations, Odile Thieullet is forging her own path. Daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter of winemakers—yet no imitation of the family's history. After years of learning alongside Sébastien Mouzon and her brother Cédric Moussé, she decided in 2021 to write her own chapter. Her goal is, above all, to vinify the Meunier of her homeland with uncompromising character and character. Odile stands for subtle precision: pruning in harmony with the plants, pigs and chickens as natural caretakers of the soil, spontaneous fermentation in wood, no enzymes, no intervention, no rush. Her wines are born of intuition, experience—and resilience. A comparison with her successful brother? It may be flattering, but it misses the mark. For Odile Thieullet stands for something unique: strong, quiet craftsmanship—powerful, unvarnished, honest. Her champagnes are like her: understated, determined, devoid of showmanship—but full of depth. Odile Thieullet is not "the sister of"'s winery—but a clear voice in the sound of Champagne.
