NV Bodegas Alonso Manzanilla Velo Flor (750ml)

WINEMAKER: Francisco & Fernando Asencio
REGION: Sanlúcar de Barrameda, SP
VARIETY: Palomino
VITICULTURE: Sustainable
A story of old Bodegas and young investment, in 2016 the two Asencio brothers took it upon themselves to revive the old bankrupt Bodega Pedro Romero originally founded in 1860. The Bodega was still full of wine slowly ageing! Not only were there some amazing wines produced by the Pedro Romero era but the previous family had purchased casks from stellar almacenista Gaspar Florido.
‘Velo Flor’ Manzanilla comes straight from the reserve solera of Pedro Romero. Selected barrel by barrel with a preference for thick flors - so that despite the average 9-10 year age of the wine it still shows more as Manzanilla than Manzanilla Pasada. The wine is bottled by hand and gravity straight from the barrel, without even the filtration used to remove yeast particles that's typical of 'en Rama' bottlings. It's an amazingly complex, rich and powerful wine, full of crunch and verve despite its age. This is an incredibly unique offering and one of those ‘once in a lifetime’ kind of wines, get it before it's sold out as we won’t be seeing this again!
