"This blend of chardonnay and sauvignon blanc was meant to be a white wine, but in search of balance and freshness, we added some juice and later also destemmed grapes of carignan. This slowly turned our white wine red. 2019 was one of the greatest, but also warmest, vintages sincr a long time here in Valvignères. We started to harvest very early compared to other years and even though the grapes fast reached a high level of sugar and therefore also strong in alcohol; we didn’t find the grapes ripened in the way we liked them to be. The balance simply wasn’t there. By adding carignan and letting the grapes macerate for six weeks in the white juice, helped us find the balance we were looking for. It left us with a red wine with very dominant tannins. We kept the wine in barrels for about three years, helping to soften up the tannins as well as the rich structure of the wine. We finally found the light and approachable balance that we like so much." - Anders Frederik Steen
Former chef, once sommelier at Noma, Anders started making wine in 2013 alongside legendary Jura winemaker, Jean-Marc Brignot. Now settled in the village of Valvignères in the Ardèche, his wines are truly unique and highly sought-after across the world. Grapes and only grapes, no adds, no sulphur. Tiny quantities.
