"From old vines of Gamay d’Auvergne planted on basalt. A portion of the grapes were fermented as whole bunches and the other portion destemmed, with a bit more than a year’s élevage in old barriques. It opens more earthy, but then in the glass unveils more beautiful red fruit, rhubarb along with pepper and other spices. Striking beauty." - Giorgio
Auvergne is a truly special region in central France, surrounded by dormant volcanoes producing wines of intense minerality and complexity. One of Auvergne's most highly sought after producers is Benoit Rosenberger, the 'wolf of the vineyards'. He farms three hectares of Gamay d'Auvergne, 50-80 year old vines grown on pure black basalt, some parcels up to 500m above sea level. Zero adds.
