2019 Domaine Finot Étraire de la Dhuy

WINEMAKER: Thomas Finot
REGION: Isère, FR
VARIETAL: Étraire de la Dhuy
VITICULTURE: Organic/Biodynamic
Étraire de la Dhuy is a rare grape from the Vallé du Grésivaudan in the Isère, with only about 6 hectares currently in production. According to Wine Grapes "DNA parentage analysis suggests a parent-offspring relationship between Étraire de l'Aduï and Persan. Indeed, both varieties belong to the Sérine ampelographic group."
Thomas Finot is a young winemaker who, after experience in many regions of France, discovered abandonned vineyards in the Coteaux du Gresivaudan (Isère) northeast of Grenoble, and is working to restore the vineyards alongside strict organic viticulture. With great passion, he is reviving local varieties such as the white Verdesse (2ha left under vine world wide) and the red Persan (9 ha left under vine world wide) and showing their potential to the world. In the vineyard Thomas is committed to organic farming with some biodynamic principles to best express the regions quality. The terroir is an ancient valley with soils of glacial stones and sands with limestone pebbles and clay. The daytime temperatures are among the highest in France, but very cool nights allow for an even ripening and wines of both power and finesse.
