2020 MicroBio Nieva York

WINEMAKER: Ismael Gozalo
VARIETAL: Verdejo
REGION: Castilla y León, SP
VITICULTURE: Organic
"The first wine produced each harvest from the early picked Verdejo. Bottled under high density, disgorged after 3 months on lees. Green apples and mandarin, generous fruit and textured, yet at the same time its got presence and zippiness. A good bulle, fruit forward intertwined with freshly baked brioche, spades of freshness. Persistent and long, a serious pét-nat." - Liz Carey, importer
Ismael Gozalo is a fifth generation winegrower and winemaker from Nieva, a village in the province of Segovia. This is Verdejo country and Ismael is colloquially known as ‘the wizard of Verdejo’. Pre-phylloxera, ungrafted old vines between 100-260 years of age that have never seen chemical treatments, deep sandy soils and an elevation of 800-900m above sea level, the quality of fruit is out of this world. Matched with a meticulously clean cellar and precise winemaking without any additions, MicroBio is a producer to look out for.
