2020 Philip Lardot der Mönch

Lardot's Rieslings are all bottled under landwein and thus not able to have vineyard designations. The Mönch or Monk is from Sankt-Aldegunder Klosterkammer, a vineyard that Phil took over from Ulli Stein. Klosterkammer is a Church Room, and thus you have the Monk. It is more red slated/sandstone and clay, thus the vineyard has more water retention. This is the first vintage and the wine in tasting in July was superb - spice and red fruited aromatics and really open out of the gate.

Philip Lardot is a Finland born, Holland raised winemaker working the steep slopes of the Mosel valley in Germany. Ever since harvesting together at Clemens Busch in 2013, Philip and his Dutch girlfriend Zindzi have grow into their roles of becoming true Mosel winzers. After staging in the Loire and at multiple wineries in the Mosel he started creating his own wines since the 2016 vintage, later using the cellar at the renowned rebel Ulli Stein, for whom he is also the assistant winemaker.
