2021 Badenhorst Papegaai
Description
WINEMAKER: Andre Adriaan
REGION: Paardeberg, South Africa
VARIETY: Field Blend
VITICULTURE: Organic/Low-Intervention
This is a super fun wine imagined by Adi as “a snapshot of Kalmoesfontein”. Papegaai means “parrot” in Afrikaans – Adi is a dedicated voëlliefhebber (bird lover). Over the course of about 10 days Adi and his team picked portions from most vineyards on the farm and ferment them all together. Some batches were whole-bunch, some were destemmed. It is a real mix – “probably 21-22 different varieties I think“, says Adi. Roughly 60% red to 40% white, he even added in a tiny portion of 4-5 year old Sauvignon Blanc that had been ageing under flor. The fruit was picked early and is a mix of old and young vineyards. Super crunchy with *just* the right amount of fruit vs structure. Drink slightly chilled.

Come curious. Leave with a new favourite.
We don’t tell you what to drink. You don’t need to know your varietals, regions or vintages, and you certainly don’t need to pretend you do. Tell us what you like, hate, what you’ve tried or curious about — we’ll take it from there. Sometimes the best bottle is the one you didn’t know you wanted.
