2021 Famille Dutraive Fleurie Les Déduits

WINEMAKER: Jean-Louis Dutraive
REGION: Beaujolais, FR
VARIETAL: Gamay
VITICULTURE: Certified Organic
This Fleurie cuvée comes from a single plot, "Les Déduits", located to the east of the Fleurie appellation on fairly deep, granitic soil. The vines are 50 years old, certified organic and face south-east at an altitude of 240m. The grapes were hand harvested and vinified in concrete vats using carbonic maceration and indigenous yeast. The wine was moved to demi-muid and barrels for 7 months ageing before being bottled unfined and unfiltered with very little or no sulphur. Often the most delicate, feminine wine of the group with lots of freshness, lift and a violet and cherry fruit punch. Light cherry red with nose of potpourri, raspberry and cranberry with a dusting of spice. So light but so concentrated. On the palate, rich sweet spice with clear juicy red fruits and a fresh mineral undercurrent.
The Beaujolais of the Dutraive family, Domaine de la Grand’Cour/Jean-Louis Dutraive in particular, are now as sought after as Metras, Foillard and Lapierre - though much harder to find. The micro-negoce Famille Dutraive was created in 2017 after 2 consecutive years’ of devasting hail losses to Domaine de la Grand’Cour. To relieve the financial stress on the family Jean-Louis teamed up with his children Ophélie, Justin and Lucas. It has quickly evolved as a family project constant; an aside from the other more individual projects and domaines.
