2021 The Story Wines Prosecco Col Fondo

WINEMAKER: Rory Lane
REGION: Nagambie, VIC
VARIETAL: Glera
VITICULTURE: Organic/Sustainable
The 2021 Prosecco Col Fondo is once again from the wonderful Box Grove Vineyard at Nagambie. Col Fondo, or ‘with the bottoms’ is a traditional sparkling wine method from northern Italy, that uses bottle fermentation and retention of the yeast sediment to give bubbles and texture. It will be naturally cloudy, and the better for it!
The 2021 Season was unusually cool compared to the last decade of warmth, and that delayed ripening and preserved much needed acidity, giving crispness and freshness to the wine. You can stand it up in the fridge and allow it to settle clear, or you can shake it (lightly) to get the full yeasty complexity. Sulphite-free, cloudy Fizz made from the traditional Glera grape.
The Story Wines was established in 2004 by Rory Lane, selecting grapes from small, older vineyards in the Grampians region of Western Victoria. Rory's story isn't the classic one. He wasn't born into a wine family, he didn't make a small fortune in other business before turning his eye to wine, but rather he started small, with fruit from regions he was most passionate about and transported them to a small suburban winery on the outskirts of Melbourne. In a short time Rory has built a reputation for producing soulful wines that speak of their regions.
