2021 Vanguardist V Mourvèdre

The Mourvèdre is sourced from Yangarra Estate and is both organic and Bio-dynamic certified. The 2021 growing season was near perfect. Small patches of rain during well timed periods helped the vines remain vibrant, and the fruit in wonderful condition. The final wine sees around 30% whole bunch. Inspired by many great Mourvèdre wines from throughout the SW of France, the second iteration of this wine is every bit as exciting as the 2020 release. Grown just a few hundred metres from the Vanguardist Grenache site, we're now firm believers of how exciting Mourvèdre can be in the Australian landscape. A single French oak vat housed the wine for about 16 months post press, before the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

"Plenty of spice, white pepper, blue flowers, red and blue fruits, a subtle honey nut and grilled meat character. It’s bright, all boysenberry and blueberry, only medium-bodied, crisp and lively, a slatey/mineral character to acidity, fine dusty concrete tannin, sappy dried herb stuff, pulling crunchy and red fruited on a long finish.
