With the trademark pink tinge from Pinot Gris/Grigio skins, this evocative skin contact beauty is like a riot of flavour, with orange, watermelon, tangerine and peach. For all that fruit salad juiciness, this carries a serious crunch, with an earthy and drying finish that makes this a rather commanding wine. Important to note - don't drink this too cold! The game changer. That's how Charlie Villard has been described, with his new take on Chilean wines rightly admired for taking the Casablanca Valley into a new millennium. Under his family's Villard Wines label, he has made smart, classy examples of Chilean classics from the family's beautiful 28-ha property. But it's his JCV side hustle natural wine brand where the really exciting bit comes in, with an array of releases that don't fit any Chile stereotype and allows Charlie to stretch his winemaking legs. The skinsy Ramato Pinot Grigio was the first wine (and arguably the most famous, but more recently the range has expanded into a cloudy Semillon and minimalist Carignan, Pinot Noir & Grenache. It's just a pleasure to access these coveted Chilean wines here in Australia as they rarely make it out of South America...
