2023 Bink Turbo Lover Riesling
WINEMAKER: Koen Janssens
REGION: Barossa Valley, SA
VARIETY: Riesling
VITICULTURE: Organic
Cooler conditions in the 2023 growing season meant Koen picked his Riesling on February 27th, two weeks later than the previous year. The source was the same organically farmed Riesling vineyard in the Barossa Valley as in 2022. The vines here are 85 years old and sit on sandy loam. The fruit was destemmed and left on skins for a day before being pressed to stainless steel for fermentation. The wine was then racked to French hogsheads, where it remained on lees for a few months before bottling.
Koen Janssens started his wine life working as a Sommelier in Belgium and around Europe. He landed in Sydney in 2012 but it wasn't long before he was called to life in the vineyard in South Australia. Koen worked with legends we all know and love such as Anton from Lucy M, James from Jauma. He started Yetti and the Kokonut with Dave Geyer, but it was old mate Pete Schell from Spinifex who suggested Koen get out on his own, and Bink was born in 2017.
