2025 Ochota Barrels Weird Berries in the Woods
Description
WINEMAKER: Taras and Amber Ochota
REGION: Baskett Range, S.A.
VARIETY: Gewurztraminer
VITICULTURE: Minimal Intervention
"Weird Berries in the Woods is Gewürztraminer for drinkers who love the fragrance but don’t want the weight. The cooler 2026 vintage brings a lighter, more delicate take on one of Ochota Barrels’ most distinctive whites.
Gewürz appears in small additions elsewhere in the Ochota range, but this wine gives it the full attention. The approach has always favoured fruit picked at different stages of ripeness, combining ripe aromatics with fresh acidity, followed by wild fermentation and time in seasoned oak.
Expect lychee, citrus blossom and a little ginger, with a leaner palate and a dry, lightly chalky finish. The cooler year keeps it especially fresh and frisky.
We’d happily open this with ginger and chilli dumplings. An aromatic white with a dry finish and a lighter touch in 2026, and a good reminder of why we keep coming back to Ochota." - Different Drop
