Federico and Carola's biodynamic farm is 200m above sea level on the hillsides of Bologna. Taking over the estate in 2005 and swiftly converting to biodynamics, making honest, terroir-expressive wine with a hands-off approach.
This is their 'perpetual cuvée', somewhat like a solera system used in sherry. A blend of barbera, negretto, sangiovese and a few international varieties, different vintages, different vessels, constantly topped up with younger wine to prevent oxidation. Bright fruit and acid imparted by the young wine with an earthy, savoury character from the mature. Intriguing, a joy to drink.
